Remote/Hybrid Backchannel Communication
When running a Jenson8 event in a remote or hybrid session, it is important that your team is able to effectively communicate throughout the entire event using a private channel that will not involve or confuse the participants.
Jenson8 recommends creating a backchannel for communications between staff members and facilitators. It is best to use an encrypted third-party messaging app that everyone has access to (Such as Telegram). This needs to be a separate platform to the one the workshop or session is being run on to avoid any confusion. Check and update this communication channel often.
By using a separate backchannel:
- Technicians and facilitators can easily communicate and fix technical difficulties that may arise.
- Important information that is not directly relevant to the participants can be easily and privately shared.
- Troubleshooting can be conducted without having to pause the entire event.
- Staff can control the timing and structure of the event without having to involve and distract participants.
